Then, plan for at least four inches of concrete thickness. If you are adding something heavy on top, like a gazebo or hot tub, go for 6 to 8 inches. 

Next, gather your tools. You will need basics like a shovel, wheelbarrow, hammer, level, and trowel. For the forms, use 2×6 or 2×8 lumber along with wooden stakes, screws, and ready-mix concrete. 

Once everything is set, mark your area, dig as needed, build the forms, pour the concrete, and smooth the surface.
